BBC is adapting J.K. Rowling's 'The Casual Vacancy' into a TV series.
The 'Harry Potter' author's first novel for adults will be turned into a drama tentatively scheduled to air on BBC One in 2014, and J.K. will collaborate on the project.
The official episode order has not been confirmed, but the exact number is ''to be decided once the creative adaptation process has formally begun''.
The 47-year-old author said: ''I'm thrilled that the BBC has commissioned 'The Casual Vacancy'. I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television and I think the BBC is the perfect home.''
BBC One controller Danny Cohen added: ''It is thrilling to be bringing the work of J.K. Rowling to BBC One audiences. J.K. Rowling's story-telling is of course peerless in its popularity, and I am looking forward to collaborating with her. This project highlights the ambition and scale of BBC One Drama, as well as the ability of modern television to attract the world's biggest talent and most exciting creative ideas.''
'The Casual Vacancy' - which has sold over a million copies since its release in September - is set in an idyllic fictional English town Pagford where not everything as it seems.
The book is J.K.'s first project since the 'Harry Potter' series concluded.
