The level of pride in the BBC also fell, with 62 per cent of viewers saying the BBC was something to be proud of, compared with 76 per cent in 2009.
The findings follow allegations that Savile, a former BBC presenter, abused young girls throughout his career.
The BBC has become embroiled in the scandal after some claimed Savile sexually assaulted teenagers while working for the Corporation.
The Director General George Entwistle has already appeared before a committee of MPs to explain why a Newsnight investigation into allegations of paedophilia was never aired.
Lord Patten, the chairman of the BBC Trust has warned the Corporation risked squandering the public's trust over the way they handled the Savile scandal.
Savile, who died last year at the age of 84, has been described as one of the most prolific sex offenders in recent UK history.
Scotland Yard detectives are currently dealing with about 300 alleged victims and are following more than 400 lines of inquiry.
