"They've provided a platform where the humble video has been transformed as part of the online revolution that resonates with young people. YouTube are deserving winners."
Researchers created a shortlist of 220 brands by collating mentions of brands on forums, social media and in face-to-face interviews with young people.
This resulting list was sent to students as an online survey in which respondents were asked to choose between 'Love', 'Like', 'No feeling', 'Dislike' and 'Hate'.
High street baker Greggs came 19th on the list, while contraceptive manufacturer Durex could only manage 70th place.
YouTube's parent company Google also topped a global list of 'most-watched companies' according to business profiles on the social networking site LinkedIn earlier this year.
YouTube was created in 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, who met while working at PayPal.
