There were further problems for the show which the BBC reportedly paid £22million for in a two-year deal. The first series winner Leanne Mitchell's download failed to make the 40 and the UK arena tour failed to sell out a single venue, leading organisers to admit defeat and cancel the entire event.
Matters got worse for the show when plans for the second series got under way. Scouts due to attend an open mic night in Birmingham pulled out after only five hopefuls attended.
It has been confirmed that the second series will transmit in Spring 2013, with the blind audition rounds being held at the BBC's MediaCityUK, Salford, in front of a live studio audience.
